WELCOME TO COMMONWEALTH BIRDING

Commonwealth Birding exists for the preservation and promotion of our great Southern tradition of upland quail hunting.  It doesn’t get much better than taking the field with your friends, side-by-side 20 gauge in hand, watching well-trained dogs work a hedgerow, and the birds fly.

Thank you for stopping by our website.  Currently, we are no longer accepting reservations for the 2011-2012 season.  We had a terrific season this year, as our photograps can attest!  As summer approaches, stop by our shop and pickup a pair of Sunglass Straps or a Field Cap to show your birding pride.  Come to think of it, a Can Cooler wouldn’t be a bad idea for The Rivah...

See you on the farm!

SPECIAL PACKAGES

We at Commonwealth Birding offer several customized hunting experiences, whether you’re trying to put together an outing for someone special or plan a retreat.  Whichever you enjoy, all of our hunters are given first-class service and Southern hospitality. Take a look at what we’ve got and let us know if you like what you see.

- GOOD OLD FASHIONED HUNT

This is just like quail hunting when Grandaddy was a boy, but with our added emphasis on customer service. Your outing starts at either 8:30 a.m. or 1:00 p.m. After registration, you and your party take the field for a three-hour guided hunt with 10 planted birds per hunter (plus whatever wild birds you scare up). Complimentary food and beverage items and bird cleaning and packaging are included.

Price: $150 per hunter   |   Purchase Package

- SKEET SHOOT AND HUNT

This package adds an hour of skeet shooting before a regular hunt. We'll use both hand and mechanical throwers to warm you up to your loaner gun or to knock the dust off of yours.  We provide the skeet, you provide shells.  After the shoot, you and your party take the field for a three-hour guided hunt with 10 planted birds per hunter (plus whatever wild birds you scare up). Complimentary food and beverage items and bird cleaning and packaging are included.

Price: $175 per hunter   |   Purchase Package

- HUNT AND LUNCH

This package adds a delicious, fully home-cooked lunch either before or after a regular hunt. You and your party will enjoy a full-service, plated luncheon prepared by our unbeatable caterer. This ain’t just cold cuts, this is a piping hot, catered lunch (in Virginia, we say “Dinner”)–like you might get at Grandma’s–with the added amenity of full service.

- NEW HUNTER EXPERIENCE

This is the best way to “cut your teeth” if you’re new to one of Virginia’s greatest traditions. Start the day by warming up with an hour of skeet shooting at 11:00 a.m., followed by a full-service, catered lunch, followed by a three-hour guided hunt with 10 planted birds per hunter. Ideal for father-son outings, youth hunters, ladies, or for the birder wanting more than just a hunt but without the time for an all-day outing.

Price: $200 per hunter   |   Purchase Package

- CORPORATE RETREAT

Your party arrives at 9:00 a.m. to be greeted by our friendly staff with fresh coffee and hot muffins. Then, it’s off to the field for an exhilarating bird hunt, with 10 planted birds per hunter. At lunchtime, you’re treated to a full-service, catered luncheon. Afterwards, your party returns to the field for another exciting hunt with another 10 planted birds per hunter. Complimentary cold and hot beverages will be at hand all day, including soft drinks, and beer for when things wind down. Also, you receive complimentary bird cleaning and packaging. Perfect for showing your clients or customers just how much you value their business.

- HE'S FINALLY GETTING HITCHED

They must be having a snowball fight in you-know-where, because the ole boy’s finally committed to tie the knot. This experience is designed “for the guys” to enjoy themselves in a full-service environment of leisure. This package starts mid-morning with an hour or so of skeet shooting, followed by a hearty lunch.  After lunch, we take the field for an extended hunt with 15 planted birds per gun.  At the end of the day, everyone relaxes at a full-service, catered cookout with some complimentary brown stuff, and every hunter gets a free Commonwealth Birding cap.  Non-hunters (ladies, friends, family) are welcome to join for supper to make it an official shin-dig. This package is also perfect for the buddy who is about to move away or has achieved an important milestone.

Price: $350 per hunter,  $40 per non-hunting dinner guest   |   Purchase Package

INVESTMENT OPPORTUNITIES

Thank you for taking the time to browse our site and get to know us a little better.

Commonwealth Birding is actively seeking land and equity investors.

Land Needs

If you have a piece of property in proximity to Richmond or Blacksburg, we'd like to talk to you about negotiating a lease agreement that's favorable for both parties.

We're looking for a minimum 100 acre tract, preferably with a house and barn:  the  "family farm" arrangement typical to Virginia.  The small farm setting lends itself perfectly to conversion to a commercial hunting preserve, with the cabin or house as an office and place to welcome hunters, and the barn to store equipment.

Conservation or historical easements, CRP, wetlands mitigation, grazing and production are all existing designations and usages that are compatible with using the property for commercial bird hunting.

If you have land that you'd like to see generate some income for you, give us a call.

Equity Opportunities

Commonwealth Birding is actively seeking equity partners who are excited about the prospect of bringing quail hunting back to Virginia and our region.  We need investors to help us with both the development and marketing of our clothing line, and the implementation and marketing of our public preserve.

We have the numbers and experience to demonstrate our commitment to the industry and the potential growth of our company.  We invite you to contact us.
